Website ReviewThe Website I reviewed was http://www.gm.com/explore/ Which was their alternative fuels program. From the outset,I can see that GM has focused its alternative fuels program on hybrids, ethanol, or fuel efficient vehicles. In other words, all of them still consume petroleum. Many of the fuel efficient vehicles were Sedans (which, if one were to purchase similar type with Honda would get a better efficiency anyways) boastings 30 MPG on the highway (Honda is close to 40). Their ethanol or hybrids were mostly SUVs, Chevy Tahoe and Suburban to name a few, which did not list their fuel efficiency, but instead said they can run on 85 ethanol. Considering the fact that the ethanol boom is only temporary, for the company to place all its bets on technology that are either now developed or fuel that will become too expensive to manufacture in the United States, the company doesn't seem to have its future planned out well. However, there are two noteworthy concepts that were mentioned on its website, one is the electric vehicle, the volt (which homeowners have to plug into a standard 120 volt plug to charge up), and the fuel cell concept vehicle, which is still in development stage. With many car companies now investing most of their money on hybrids or fuel cell. GM has a long way to go before catching up with them. |
