Article Assignment

I read an article about wind generated power from Native American communities. On the Lower Brule reservation in South Dakota Native American tribes are learning to live in a sustainable way. I have to quote the article “Centralized power production based on fossil fuel and nuclear resources has centralized political power, disconnected communities from responsibility and control over energy, and created a vast, wasteful system.” It's this along with the solution of sustainable technologies that has grabbed the attention of the Native Americans whom have a healthy respect for wind which symbolizes change. Note the common adage the winds of change. The Dakotas has more potential for wind generated power than almost anywhere in the world so the tirbes are beginning to taking advantage of it. Twenty three Indian tribes have more than 300 gigawatts of wind generating potential. That's equal to over half of present U.S. Installed electrical capacity. It's just a matter of getting together the money and organizing power to do it. It's one step at a time. The potential is there. White Earth is the windiest reservation in the state. They have a tribal plan to create 8 megawatts of wind energy.
