I like your Grandmother too.

It's would take so long to go over the Bioneers conference with the depth it truly deserves. I'll try my best to just go over the highlights for me. There is nothing that I have experienced that brings out so much enthusiasm about sustainability as the bioneers conference. In the morning the conference started out with a beautifull gathering of 13 grandmothers from different ethnic tribes and traditions from native American to Alaskan to African all giving there blessing to the earth and to the conference. It was so sweet, to give the feminine energy and wisdom the honor and respect they deserve is so powerful. The couple that started bioneers was also very good. They spoke with such conviction going over the growth of the bioneers conference from a couple hundred people to the 13 thousand we had at this conference. The guy from pax scientific was okay I really liked watching the presentation on fans and water pumps. Some really cool boat designs. I always enjoy seeing the progress of business to encorporate biomimicry into design. Good stuff. With Judy wicks the owner of the White Dog it was a whole other level. Such a giving person. So caring and action based. She built an extremely successful cafe business that used only local food. She talked about how once she had realized her success she invested money in a company that a went around to her competition restaurants and educated them on buying local food and hooking them up with local farmers. I think that's just awesome. Instead of holding her success secrets tight and close she spread them for the greater good. I have so much respect for that. She called it a living return on investment, she gets to live in a better place with more diversity and healthier people and farmers. John Abrahms is a guy from Rhode Island who started an employee owned construction company that has received national acclaim. It just makes so much sense in so many ways. When the people working for the company actually own the company the motivation for success is huge. Everyone enjoys the profits, there's an increased pride in the work done, and above all the wealth is spread out more so instead of one person making a lot of money and the others just squeaking by everyone does pretty reasonably. If you'd like to learn more as I do check out his book the Company We keep.

One of the many awesome things about bioneers is the different perspectives you get. I've found that one of the most important things in understanding the world is to understand the different perspectives. Van Jones has spent his life advocating the improvement of inner city life. He's truyly found a home with the bioneers. When we tackle the true heart of the environmental issue we are also working on so many other things. In order for everyone to be concerned about the environment we have to handle the poverty issue. How can someone care about the air we breathe if they don't have enough food to eat or money for health care. We have to involve everyone in making the world sustainable, not just people who can afford a prius. Denise Obrien Secretary of Agriculture.

I could really go on and on and on.......

But I gotta bring up the 13 grandmothers one more time. I've been spending allot of my time with my grandmother for the past year since I moved here to fairfield. Yes she may be a bit slower and I may need to repeat things a good bit, but there is much wisdom I have found in honoring the great mother in my family. It's a healing process for the male ego dominated world. They're more than just super cute nice old ladies shoving cookies and milk at kids. There's a deep profound wisdom that they want to share with the world. We just need to listen.
